2008 NFL Mock Draft 2.0
TeamPos PlayerComments:

1. Miami

    Dolphins

OT

Jake  Long,

 Michigan

Video Link 1 on 1 against Vernon Gohlston

With Bill Parcells now running the show in Miami.  The Dolphins select Jake Long.

2. St Louis

     Rams

DT

Glenn Dorsey,

LSU

The Rams take Dorsey here and send Carriker back to DE.

3. Atlanta

     Falcons

QB

Matt Ryan

BC

Video Link comeback win against VT 2007

The Falcons are lacking in leadership.  Matt Ryan looks like he can be a leader for their franchise going forward. It was said by someone at the Combine that Ryan studies more film than Peyton Manning.  If Ryan performs well at his Pro Day he should be the pick here.

4. Oakland

     Raiders

DE

Chris Long,

Virginia

He said he wouldn't wear a flat top haircut.  Would be cool if he would though.

5.Kansas  City

    Chiefs

DE

Vernon Gholston,

Ohio State

Video Link 1 on 1 against Jake Long

After trading away Jared Allen.  This pick makes more sense.

6. NewYork

        Jets

RB

Darren McFadden,

Arkansas

Video Link Ultimate Weapon

McFadden had a great Combine workout.  He ran a 4.33 second 40 yard dash.  He also had to answer many questions regarding past off the field incidents.  Many people have the Raiders selecting McFadden at No 4.  I also beleive that is a strong possibility which would bring Vernon Gholston here at 6.

7.New England

    Patrots

CB

Leodis McKelvin,

Troy

Video Link 77 yard punt returned for a TD

The Patriots pick up the best corner in the draft to replace Asante Samuel.  He can be an asset in the return game  as well.

8. Baltimore

      Ravens

CB

Mike Jenkins,

South Florida

Jenkins is an outstanding cover corner who has the potential to be a pro bowl type player. He is a great athlete and is versatile enough to contribute as a kick returner or safety.

9. Cincinnati

      Bengals

DT

Sedrick Ellis,

USC

Video Link Highlights

After missing out on Shaun Rogers and Dwayne Robertson the Bengals get help up front through the draft.  This is probably a blessing for the franchise.  The Bengals add a difference maker who showed at the Senior Bowl that he was on another level.

10.New Orleans

      Saints

CB

Antonio Rogers-Cromartie,

Tennessee State

This is a need pick.  The Saints tried to get the help they needed by signing Jason David away from the Colts.  He got burned all year long so taking Antonio Rogers-Cromartie here is the way to go. With 4.3 second speed in the 40 he shouldn't get burnt like David did.

11. Buffalo

      Bills

LB

Keith Rivers,

USC

Video Link Highlights 2007

The Bills look to get help at other positions later and take the best player available in USC linebacker Keith don't call me Phillip Rivers.

12. Denver

      Broncos

OT

Ryan Clady,

Boise St

Video Link Fiesta Bowl 2006

Ryan Clady is big and athletic.  He seems to be a perfect fit for the Broncos for a couple of reasons.  Their starting LT Matt Lepsis retired and Clady is well versed in zone blocking system.

13. Carolina

       Panthers

RB

Rashard Mendenhall,

Illinois

Video Link Highlights

Rashard Mendenhall is big at 225 pounds and fast 4.4 speed in the 40 yard dash.  He had a great week at the Combine.  Mendenhall and Williams can form a good tandem in Carolina.

14. Chicago

       Bears

WR

Limas Sweed,

 Texas

Video Link Highlights

Sweed could be a big time target in Chicago.  He is big like Muhammed but fast and young.  With Muhammed gone and Berrian on his way out Sweed could have plenty of footballs thrown his way should the Bears take him at 14.

15. Detroit

       Lions

CB

Aqib Talib,

Kansas

The Lions have added Leigh Bodden and resigned Travis Fisher at the corner back position.  My pick remains the same here.  Talib is better than either of those players and CB is still a must pick here at 15.

16. Arizona

       Cardinals

RB

Jonathon Stewart,

Oregon

Video Link Highlights 2005

Word on  the street is the Cardinals will take a running back high in this draft.  Stewart weighs 235 pounds and has 4.4 speed.  The Cardinals are a pretty young team and Edge is getting a little older so this pick is a smart one for their future.  They can also afford to wait for his foot to heal properly before putting him into action.  So it is a nice fit for Stewart as well as the Cardinals.

17. Minnesota

       Vikings

DE

Derrick Harvey,

Florida

The Vikings have lost starting DE Kenechi Udeze due to an illness for the entire 2008 season.  Erasmas James another 1st round pick at DE looks like a total bust at this point.  The Vikings made a run at free agent  DE Justin Smith but he chose to sign with the 49ers.  The lastest rumor is that the Vikings are looking to trade this pick to the Carolina Panthers for DE Julius Peppers.   If a deal for Peppers can't be reached than I can't see the Vikings not drafting a DE at pick 17.

 18. Houston

       Texans

 OT

Jeff Otah,

Pitt

The Texans take the massive Offensive Tackle from Pitt after missing on the top three running backs.

19. Philadelphia

       Eagles

DE

Phillip Merling,

Clemson

Video Link Highlights 2007

Jevon Kearse is gone so the Eagles replace him with a DE who can rush the passer but is equally as impresive stopping the run.

20. Tampa Bay

       Buccaneers

WR

Malcolm Kelly,

Oklahoma

Video Link Highlights 2007

At 6-4 and 220 pounds Kelly is a huge target.  The Bucs receivers are old and adding a talent like Kelly here gives the overall position a major upgrade.

21. Washington

       Redskins

OT

Chris Williams,

Vanderbilt

Obviously Chris is very intelligent being that he goes to Vanderbilt.  He is also very talented.  Chris is athletic enough to play at a high level in a zone blocking run game.  He would have been higher on our board but he needs to work on his upper body strenth since he completed only 21 repitions with 225 pounds.  He also got popped in the head by Red Bryant at the Senior Bowl and got the worst of the exchange.  That knocked him down a bit also.

22. Dallas

     Cowboys

CB

Brandon Flowers,

VT

Video Link Highlights

The Cowboy's take the physical CB to pair up with Newman to form a good tandem of corners in Dallas.  Some people have him rated as their number 1 CB prospect.  He is a little lower for us because he doesn't posess great long speed.  Watch the Video link and you can tell he can play.

23. Pittsburgh

       Steelers

G

Brandon Albert,

Virginia

Alan Faneca is out Brandon Albert is in.  The Steelers fill a huge whole created by the departure of Faneca.  Brandon Albert is a beast and I bet the Steeler fans won't be missing Faneca for long.

24. Tennessee

       Titans

WR

Mario Manninham,
 Michigan

Video Link Highlights 2007

The Titans need to improve the wide receiver position in a major way.  Manninham would be their best receiver from day one.  Manningham ran 4.4 and 4.38 seconds in the 40 yard dash at his Pro Day.  Upgrading his pedestrian times from the combine.

25. Seattle

       Seahawks

TE

Fred Davis,

USC

Video Link 2007 Catch

Playmaker and redzone threat.  Fred Davis plays TE like a wide Receiver and would flourish in Seattle's passing attack.

26. Jacksonville

       Jaguars

DE

Calais Campbell,

Miami

The Jags take the big DE from Miami.  Campbell did not run well at the combine but if you watched Miami games you can clearly see that their is untapped potential there.

27. San Diego

       Chargers

S

Kenny Phillips,

Miami

Video Link Highlights

6-2 211 and extremely athletic Phillips would add to a talented young secondary.

28. Dallas

       Cowboys

RB

Felix Jones,

Arkansas

Video Link 72 Yard TD run

Jones was extremely productive at Arkansas and commanded his share of carries next to Darren McFadden.  Also Jerry Jones is an Arkansas Alumni.

29.SanFransisco

      49ers

WR

Devin Thomas,

Michigan State

Devin Thomas Highlights 2007

Yes the 49ers signed Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson.  Remember who the offensive coordinator is?  Mike Martz.  This guy can never have enough receivers in his corps.  I think he takes Devin Thomas here if he is still available.

30. Green Bay

       Packers

OT

Gosder Cherilus ,

BC

Green Bay selects a talented and tough offensive tackle who showed that he can play against the best at the Senior bowl.

31.New England

      Patriots

The Patriots have lost their draft pick for cheating in the SpyGate  scandal.

32. New York

       Giants

LB

Dan Connor,

Penn St

Video Link Highlights Versus Ohio St

Another solid linebacker from linebacker U.  Mitchell and Torber are both coming up to be free agents.  The Giants keep one and draft Conner here.
